Veteran Benefits Guide applauds the Idaho Legislature, as every elected member voted in support of Idaho Senate Bill 1286. The bill, which establishes new consumer protection rules for Veterans’ benefits matters, was subsequently and swiftly signed into law by Governor Brad Little.

“We are very impressed by the Idaho Legislature coming together to approve a bill that will not only protect Veterans but will also continue to allow them to choose how they access support for their disability benefits,” said Josh Smith, CEO and co-founder of VBG. “This passage proves Veteran choice is not a partisan issue and should be an example to other states that want to properly assist our Veterans.”

Idaho joins a growing list of states signing similar legislation into law that prioritizes protecting Veterans while preserving their choice in how they navigate a complex benefits system. The action taken by state lawmakers reflects a growing national trend to address bad actors in the industry while continuing to give Veterans the power of choice. Including limits on compensation, mandatory disclosures and data security requirements, SB 1286 establishes clear language to ensure that Veterans are protected while seeking support.

VBG would also like to recognize the Idaho House Commerce and Human Resources Committee, including Chair James Holtzclaw, Vice Chair Tony Wisniewski and committee members, for advancing the legislation with a clear commitment to Veteran-focused policy.

SB 1286 will take effect on Wednesday, July 1.
