By helping veterans submit thorough, accurate claims to the VA, VBG makes it easier for the VA to evaluate applications and to ensure that veterans receive the correct disability rating and related financial support.

The GUARD Act outright BANS anyone from helping veterans with filing benefits claims unless they are VA-accredited attorneys, under threat of criminal penalties. Meanwhile, the PLUS Act would instead simplify and expand the VA-accreditation process. Both would add needed oversight, set limits to costs to veterans, and require those offering services to be VA-approved.

The PLUS Act highlights the importance of collaboration between the private sector and governmental oversight — bringing together a more adaptive and flexible system, tailoring assistance to individual veterans’ needs, and honoring the service and sacrifices of our nation’s heroes. We strongly urge you to consider the potential drawbacks of the GUARD Act and promising alternatives like The PLUS Act.

DOING RIGHT by America’s veterans requires providing more freedom and flexibility for their health care options.

A fight is bubbling up over competing proposals in Congress to address companies that charge fees to help veterans file disability benefits claims.

We believe veterans’ rights should not be restricted by limiting how they approach their benefit claims. More organizations are needed to help our veterans, not fewer.
